Four Chasers On Premier12 Tourney Rosters

Coleman, Eibner & Morin on Team USA roster, Sulbaran with Dutch
November 9, 2015

A total of four former Storm Chasers will participate in the first WBSC Premier12 baseball tournament in Taiwan beginning this week, including three on Team USA's roster. Among those on the United States roster are pitcher Casey Coleman, catcher Parker Morin and outfielder Brett Eibner, while pitcher J.C. Sulbaran is also on the Netherlands roster. Fellow Royals minor league pitcher Brooks Pounders, who could possibly pitch with the Storm Chasers during the 2016 season, has also joined Team USA.

Coleman has pitched for Omaha in each of the previous two seasons, combining for a 10-5 record and 3.08 ERA (51 ER/149.1 IP) in 67 appearances, adding 107 punchouts. The right-hander was also part of the Team USA's 2015 Pan American Games roster, winning a Silver Medal.

Eibner has also worn a Storm Chasers uniform in each of the last two campaigns, posting a .278 average (184-663) with 26 homers and 108 RBI in 177 contests. The 26-year-old outfielder paced Omaha during the 2015 season with 19 longballs and 81 RBI in 103 games.

Sulbaran made his Triple-A and Storm Chasers debut in 2015, tallying a 3-3 record and 6.17 ERA (29 ER/42.1 IP) in eight starts, adding 33 strikeouts. The right-hander earned the victory in his first start with Omaha on July 31 at Round Rock, fanning nine batters while allowing a lone earned run on two hits in 6.2 innings of work.

Morin played in one game for Omaha during the 2014 season, recording no hits in three at bats, though he did reach base via a walk. The backstop spent the majority of the 2015 campaign with Double-A Northwest Arkansas, posting a .309 average (55-178) with four homers and 30 RBI in 56 contests with the Naturals.

The Premier12 baseball tournament was organized to allow the top twelve baseball countries to face off, beginning with a round-robin format before eight teams advance to the elimination stages. Only players not listed on 40-man MLB rosters were eligible to be selected to compete in the tournament, and must have permission from their parent clubs.

Japan enters the tournament as the top ranked country, followed by the United States, Cuba, Chinese Taipei, and the Netherlands to round out the top five. Team USA begins their Opening Round play against the Dominican Republic early on Tuesday morning, followed by matchups versus Venezuela, Mexico, Japan and Korea in pool play through November 15.

All of the matchups will be streamed online on YouTube. More information on the Premier12 tournament, including a list of teams, rosters and results, can be viewed by clicking here.
