Burns Recalled & Pounders Optioned

OF Billy Burns becomes 14th 2016 Omaha player to earn promotion
August 3, 2016

The Kansas City Royals have announced a series of transactions that affects their Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers roster prior to Wednesday evening's series-opening matchup against the Memphis Redbirds at Autozone Park.

Outfielder Billy Burns has been recalled by the Royals. In two games with the Storm Chasers since being acquired by Kansas City in a July 30 trade from Oakland has recorded one hit in five at bats. He becomes the 14th member of the 2016 Omaha roster to be promoted from the Storm Chasers to the Royals this year.

In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Brooks Pounders has been optioned to Omaha from Kansas City. Over four appearances with the Royals, the 25-year-old has compiled a 1-1 record and 13.50 ERA (7 ER/4.2 IP), adding six strikeouts. Pounders has tallied a 5-1 mark and 2.82 ERA (22 ER/70.1 IP) in 22 outings (seven starts) with Omaha this season, adding 82 strikeouts.

As a result of these moves, Omaha's roster now stands at 24 active players, in addition to five on the Disabled List and LHP Mike Minor on a Major League Rehab Assignment.

The Storm Chasers begin a four-game road trip this evening in Memphis, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CT. LHP John Lannan (6-7, 4.70) is expected to get the nod for Omaha and be opposed by Redbirds RHP Mike Mayers (3-4, 3.47).

Omaha return home to Werner Park on Saturday, July 30 to host a four-game set versus the Iowa Cubs. The series opener is slated for a 7:05 p.m. start time.

Tickets for that contest and all remaining Storm Chasers home dates are still available and can be purchased online at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets or by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
