Name Our Beer

OMAHA, Neb. - The 2013 O'pen House on Saturday, March 16 from 10am to 2pm at Werner Park will be a lot of things. It will be free to the public, feature a revamped Storm Front Team Store, the ability for fans to "Select Their Seat" and the opportunity to name and taste the new Storm Chasers beer. However before this event takes place, the team needs your help.
Before Werner Park can welcome an original Storm Chasers beer crafted by the Nebraska Brewing Company, our beer needs a name. Prior to the O'pen House from March 4 through March 14, fans 21 and older are encouraged to help name this beer. All beer names should be submitted to nameourbeer@omahastormchasers.com. Anyone of legal age at the event on March 16 can vote for their favorite name among the top five received by the Storm Chasers while enjoying the first taste of this new beer.
The soon to be named Storm Chasers beer is a smooth, thirst-quenching beer that balances the delicate sweetness of Pilsner malt and lemony/spicy notes of Sterling hops. It was specifically crafted to be an approachable but flavorful addition to everyone's favorite pastime by local brewers at Nebraska Brewing Company. The beer also has a 5.1% ABV and 14 IBUs.
No matter what the name of the Storm Chasers beer is called, it will be the first beer that Nebraska Brewing Company has made with Sterling Hops. Sterling Hops were bred in the U.S. and released in 1999 as a substitute for the famous Czech variety called Saaz which dates back more than 700 years. While the flavor and aroma of Saaz is well known from the popularity of Czech Pilsner beers, the plant itself is somewhat unpredictable for the farmer in regards to yield and pest resistance. Sterling Hops give us a strikingly familiar flavor/aroma profile and a plant well adapted to growing in the Pacific Northwest which saves U.S. Brewers from having to ship a very delicate hop across the ocean and results in fresher hop character in the glass.
After all of the votes are tallied, the name will be revealed and the first full glass of the new Storm Chasers beer will be served at the 2013 home opener on Friday, April 12.
