Chiefs Announce 2013 Schedule

17 Fireworks Shows Scheduled

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs have announced their 2013 Midwest League schedule, their 31st as a professional franchise, which kicks off at home on Thursday, April 4 against the defending Midwest League Champions Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The season ends September 2 in Kane County and the Chiefs are home on May 24, the 11th Anniversary of the stadium opening, Memorial Day and the 4th of July.

The Chiefs open the season with four games against Wisconsin with an Opening Day extravaganza of Fireworks and Thirsty Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch. Tickets for the April 4, 5 and 6 games are just $8 for Club Box and $5 for lawn and are currently on sale Online or by calling 1-866-MYTICKET. The first homestand is seven games and also includes three against the Beloit Snappers. Holiday wise the Chiefs host Wisconsin for Memorial Day weekend, May 25-27 and host Beloit on the 4th of July for the first in a five-game series. The Chiefs are on the road for a rare two-game series in Burlington July 2-3. The home portion of the schedule concludes on August 30 in the finale of a three-game series against Clinton.

The schedule includes 17 fireworks shows with nine of those on Saturday night's beginning on May 4. The non-Saturday Fireworks shows include: Thursday April 4, Thursday May 23, Sunday May 26, Wednesday June 5, Friday June 28, Wednesday July 17, Friday August 9 and Friday August 30. All games with post-game Fireworks will be at 6:30 p.m.

The annual Jimmy Buffett promotional night will take place on Saturday July 20 with post-game Fireworks, a special jersey worn by the players and auctioned off during the game and a post-game concert by the Boat Drunks who return for a second straight season. The Legend at the Ballpark Night presented by IPMR will be on Saturday, June 8 with a VIP guest to be announced later in the off-season.

Game times will remain 6:30 p.m. in April and May and 7:00 p.m. from June 1 - August 17 with the exception of Fireworks nights and Sunday's. In a change for the 2013 season, Sunday home games will be played at 5:00 p.m. in July and August with only three Sunday games starting at 2:00 p.m. on April 7, May 19 and June 9. Day games have also been scheduled with the Saturday April 6 and Saturday April 20 games beginning at 1:00 p.m. Four 11:00 a.m. games have been scheduled with the annual DARE Day game on Friday April 19, two GAMEday Education days on Friday May 3 and Monday May 20, and the annual Super Splash Day on Monday July 22. The 4th of July game, which is also a Thirsty Thursday, will begin at 5:30 p.m. and fans will be invited to stay at Peoria Chiefs Stadium for a spectacular view of the downtown Peoria fireworks.

The Chiefs 2013 schedule features consecutive double headers with Bradley University baseball on May 4 and 5 as Peoria hosts Fort Wayne and the Braves play South Dakota State. On Saturday, May 4, Bradley and SDSU play at Noon while the Chiefs and TinCaps play at 6:30 with post-game Fireworks. On Sunday May 5, Bradley and SDSU again play at Noon while the Chiefs host the TinCaps at 5:00 p.m. in their first Sunday night game of the season.

The Chiefs welcome the Cubs affiliate back to town on May 22 for a three-game series against the Kane County Cougars. The two rivals play 15 times in 2013 with only six of those games in Peoria. The other three-game series will be July 27-29. The Sandberg Plan, a special five-game season ticket package is currently on sale featuring four of the games against the Cougars. Cubs fans can watch the Chiefs-Cougars games on May 23 & 24 and July 27 & 28 plus the IPMR game against Quad Cities on June 8 for just $79. The package also includes $25 Chiefs cash to spend at the ballpark and a Chiefs hat.

The Chiefs play Cedar Rapids 20 times each in 2012 for the most games against any one opponent. Right behind the matchups with the Kernels, the Chiefs play Quad Cities 18 times and Wisconsin 17 times. The Chiefs will host Clinton, Burlington and Wisconsin 10 times each while playing 13 games in Cedar Rapids and 11 in Cities. The Chiefs host Quad Cities June 8-10 and June 25-28 but those are the only two series in Peoria for the River Bandits, now affiliated with the Houston Astros. The Chiefs head to Davenport April 11-14, May 11-13 and July 30 to August 2.

The Midwest League schedule again features just three games against each of the eight Eastern Division squads. The two week inter-divisional games are scheduled for April 24 to May 4 and July 10-22. The Chiefs travel to Dayton April 24-26 and Bowling Green April 27-29 in the first half and then again to Lansing July 10-12 and Great lakes July 13-15. Peoria will welcome Lake County April 29 to May 1 and Fort Wayne May 2-4 and in the second half host South Bend July 17-19 and West Michigan July 20-22.

The Chiefs' 2013 schedule features a 10-game, 11-day homestand as the Chiefs host Clinton May 17-20 before an off day and then host back-to-back three-game series against Kane County and Wisconsin. They also have three seven-game homestands, April 4-10, August 3-9 and August 17-23 and a pair of nine-game road trips. The first of those long roadtrips is from April 21-30 and sends the Chiefs to Kane County, Dayton and Bowling Green. The second starts a week later as the Chiefs travel to Beloit, Quad Cities and Kane County from May 8-16. The Chiefs finish the first half in Cedar Rapids June 14-16 and start the second half in Beloit June 20. The first homestand of the second half begins on June 25 against Quad Cities. The 2013 MWL All-Star game will be hosted by Dayton on Tuesday, June 18 and the league will not play games on June 17 or 19.
