Selected in the 8th round of the 2022 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs out of Capistrano Valley High School in Mission Viejo, Calif... signed with the Cubs on July 23, 2022... son of former home run king and Cardinals first baseman Mark McGwire... credits a meeting with Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers in 2019 for the development of his splitter -- the two met when McGwire was in high school and his father was invited to Oakland to be enshrined in the A's Hall of Fame... his brother, Max McGwire, played collegiately at St. Louis University, the University of Oklahoma and the University of San Diego

His father, Mark, was a 12-time MLB All-Star, won two World Series, was the 1987 AL Rookie of the Year, won a Gold Glove in 1990, led the Majors in home runs five times, won three Silver Sluggers and set the then all-time single-season record for home runs with 70 in 1998 before being selected to MLB's All-Century Team... finished his career with 583 home runs... "Big Mac" has also served as a coach or in player development roles with the Cardinals, Dodgers, Padres and Athletics
