Long Ball: Owen homer lifts Power to victory

Cam Vieaux allows just one run over 5.2 IP en route to his second win of the year.

(Columbia, SC - May 19, 2017)-  The West Virginia Power took an early lead and never surrendered to the Columbia Fireflies, picking up a Friday night victory 3-1. Cam Vieaux earned his second consecutive win after allowing just one run.

(Columbia, SC - May 19, 2017)-  The West Virginia Power took an early lead and never surrendered to the Columbia Fireflies, picking up a Friday night victory 3-1. Cam Vieaux earned his second consecutive win after allowing just one run.

The Power got to Columbia starter Blake Taylor early. With a runner aboard and one out in the first, Hunter Owen crushed a two-run home run over Tim Tebow's head in left field to give West Virginia a 2-0 advantage. Owen's long ball was his fourth of the season.
Left-hander Vieaux surrendered his only run of the night in the first. A Michael Paez double drove home Andres Gimenez to inch the Fireflies closer, 2-1. But Vieaux settled to his normal self and gave up six hits over five and two thirds. Vieaux earned his second win of the year while striking out three.
West Virginia came across one more time in the third. A throwing error from Reed Gamache brought home Owen and the Power offense finished with three runs.
The win goes to Vieaux (2-0) and Taylor (0-5) took the loss. Geoff Hartlieb garnered his third save of the season, shutting it down in the eighth and ninth.
The Power and Fireflies square off on Saturday night. West Virginia sends James Marvel (2-3) to take on Harol Gonzalez (2-2). First pitch from Spirit Communications Park is set for 7:05 P.M. Catch the call on the Power Baseball network.
