KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Aug. 2, 2017) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have received left-handed pitcher Andre Davis from the Kansas City Royals organization as part of Sunday's trade for Melky Cabrera deal. The White Sox acquired Davis and right-handed pitcher A.J. Puckett from the Royals in exchange for Cabrera and cash considerations. With Davis joining the Intimidators roster, Kannapolis has promoted right-handed pitcher Mick VanVossen to Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem in a corresponding move.
Davis, 23, is slated to make his White Sox organization debut on Wednesday against Delmarva at 12:05 p.m. The left-hander is 5-4 with a 4.83 ERA (46 ER/85.2 IP), 87 strikeouts, and one complete game over 18 starts with the Class A Lexington Legends this season. Davis earned South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for April 17-23 after working 7.0 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out eight against Columbia on April 20. Davis, a native of Castro, Calif., has gone 9-8 with a 5.27 ERA (83 ER/141.2 IP) and 147 strikeouts in 36 games (24 starts) over three minor-league seasons. He originally was selected by the Royals in the eighth round of the 2015 draft out of Arkansas Pine-Bluff.
VanVossen, 24, earns his first promotion to the Winston-Salem Dash and his second opportunity at the Class A-Advanced level. The reliever made four appearances with Class A-Advanced Potomac in 2016 while with the Washington Nationals organization. This season, he is 4-1 with a 3.05 ERA (15 ER/44.1 IP) and 50 strikeouts in 26 games between Class A Hagerstown and Kannapolis, including 1-1 with a 1.96 ERA (4 ER/18.1 IP) and 22 strikeouts in 14 games with the Intimidators. The White Sox traded for Mick VanVossen on June 7 and assigned him to Kannapolis on June 9. He was named for the lead singer of the Rolling Stones. In his career, he is 8-7 with a 3.99 ERA in 74 games (two starts) since being drafted by the Nationals in the 28th round of the June 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Michigan State.
The Intimidators wrap up a 3-game home stand on Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. against Delmarva. Tickets are available by calling the F&M Bank Box Office at (704) 932-3267 or by visiting IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
