KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 25, 2017) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, promoted right-handed pitcher Matt Foster to Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem and received right-handed pitcher J.B. Olson from Advanced Rookie Great Falls prior to Tuesday night's game against Columbia at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System.
Foster, 22, pitched in 10 games with the Intimidators, posting a 0.79 ERA (1 ER/11.1 IP) and 15 strikeouts compared to two walks while limiting South Atlantic League hitters to a .108 average. He converted all six of his save attempts with Kannapolis. The White Sox selected Foster in the 20th round of the June 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Alabama. He made his professional debut in 2016, posting a 0.61 ERA (2 ER/29.2 IP) and 41 strikeouts in 22 games between the Rookie-level Arizona League White Sox and Great Falls. In his career, he is 0-0 with a 0.66 ERA and 17 saves in 17 chances over 32 appearances.
Foster is the 16th Intimidators player to earn his first promotion to Class A-Advanced this season, joining Dane Dunning (April 28), Luis Martinez (May 25), Lane Hobbs (June 3), Joel Booker (June 22), Jameson Fisher (June 22), Alec Hansen (June 22), Jimmy Lambert (June 22), Kyle Kubat (June 22), Mike Morrison (June 22), Seby Zavala (June 22), Bernardo Flores (June 26), Victor Diaz (July 1), Tyler Sullivan (July 4), Sam Dexter (July 5), and Brandon Dulin (July 7).
Olson, 22, joins Kannapolis after appearing in 10 games for the Great Falls Voyagers, going 2-2 with a 0.69 ERA (1 ER/13.0 IP) and 13 strikeouts compared to one walk in the Pioneer League. The White Sox selected the 6'2", 195-pound pitcher out of the University of Oklahoma in the 10th round of the June 2017 First-Year Player Draft. This spring with the Sooners, Olson went 5-1 with a 1.99 ERA (10 ER/45.1 IP), 46 strikeouts, and eight saves in 31 appearances.
The White Sox 2017 draft is well-represented on the Kannapolis roster as Olson (10th rounder) is the sixth member of his draft class to reach the Intimidators, along with Jake Burger (first round), Gavin Sheets (second round), Luis González (third round), Tyler Johnson (fifth round), and Evan Skoug (seventh round).
The Intimidators wrap up a 7-game home stand on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. against the Columbia Fireflies. Tickets are available by calling the F&M Bank Box Office at (704) 932-3267 or visiting IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
