KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Sept. 15, 2017) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have returned Major League outfielder Willy García to the Chicago White Sox following the completion of his rehabilitation assignment prior to tonight's South Atlantic League Championship Series Game 4 at Greenville. Garcia appeared in five games in the South Atlantic League postseason with Kannapolis, helping the Intimidators capture the Northern Division Championship advance to the SAL Championship Series.
Garcia, 25, is hitting .258 (24-93) with five doubles, three triples, two home runs, 11 RBI, and 13 runs scored in 40 games over two stints with the White Sox this season. He was originally placed on the disabled list with a concussion on August 1 following a July 31 collision with Yoán Moncada on July 31 vs. Toronto. Garcia is the second Major League-experienced player to join Kannapolis this season, along with infielder Everth Cabrera, and the first current Major Leaguer to rehab with the Intimidators since the 2009 season. Garcia played in the South Atlantic League in 2012 while with the West Virginia Power (A, Pirates).
The Intimidators continue the SAL Championship Series tonight at 7:05 p.m. in Greenville with Game 4 of the best-of-five series. Kannapolis trails the series, 2-games-to-1, needing a win tonight to force the deciding Game 5 on Saturday, also in Greenville.
