JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Yet another upgrade is coming to TVA Credit Union Ballpark as the City of Johnson City unanimously approved funding of $555,300 for a new lighting system provided by Musco Sports Lighting.
The existing lights at the ballpark will be transitioned to a new LED system with the six wooden poles and several existing fixtures being replaced with galvanized steel poles and 88 luminaries. The new lighting system will bring TVA Credit Union Ballpark up to compliance with the lighting standards set by Minor League Baseball.
"The Minor League Baseball office is happy to see that the City of Johnson City, the Johnson City Cardinals and
Musco Lighting are working together to retrofit the field lighting at TVA Credit Union Ballpark to bring the
lighting levels above the requirements" added Andy Shultz, MiLB Assistant Director of Baseball and Business Operations.
Construction of the lighting project is expected to start in Mid-October with the project taking four to six weeks once the materials are delivered. Additionally, by installing LED lights, the ballpark would save approximately $900 per year.
"This is an improvement I've targeted since I first got here in 2014," added Cardinals VP/GM Tyler Parsons. "This will not only improve the aesthetic appeal of the entire facility, but it will get us in compliance with MiLB and the acceptable lighting levels. I can't thank the City of Johnson City enough for their support with this project and moving it forward. It will be a great addition to TVA Credit Union Ballpark and our lighting will be among the best in all of Minor League Baseball."
In January 2016, Boyd Sports, LLC took over the management of the Johnson City Cardinals and has put over $750,000 in private investments into the ballpark. This includes an artificial turf infield, locker room renovations, and The Perch, a 200-person group deck along the third base side.
The Johnson City Cardinals recently set their single season attendance record during the 2017 and TVA Credit Union Ballpark was voted as the Best Rookie Level Ballpark by Ballpark Digest. Season tickets, mini-plans and group tickets are now on sale, and fans can purchase them online at JCCardinals.com or calling 423-461-4866.
