KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 26, 2017) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have promoted left-handed pitcher Bernardo Flores to the Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem Dash. Flores went 8-4 with a 3.00 ERA (26 ER/78.0 IP) in 14 games (14 starts) with the Intimidators to open the 2017 season. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Victor Diaz has been activated off the disabled list.
The White Sox selected Flores, 21, in the seventh round of the 2016 Draft out of USC. The Baldwin Park, Calif., native is the No.19 prospect in the White Sox organization according to MLB.com and has struck out 70 batters in 78.0 innings while walking 13 during his time in the South Atlantic League. He ranks second in the SAL in wins, sixth in innings pitched, 13th in WHIP (1.10), 14th in ERA, and 15th in strikeouts. Flores has been dominant on the road this season, going 6-1 with a 1.50 ERA (8 ER/ 48.0 IP) in eight games (eight starts). He split his 2016 season between the AZL White Sox and Great Falls Voyagers, going 6-2 with a 3.48 ERA (25 ER/65 IP) in his professional debut.
Flores is the 12th member of the 2017 Kannapolis Intimidators to earn a promotion to Winston-Salem.
Diaz, 23, was placed on the disabled list on June 4 after going 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA (4 ER/ 4.2 IP) and seven strikeouts in four relief appearances with Kannapolis. The White Sox acquired Diaz from the Boston Red Sox along with infielder Yoán Moncada, pitcher Michael Kopech, and outfielder Luis Alexander Basabe in exchange for left-handed pitcher Chris Sale on Dec. 7, 2016
Kannapolis returns to Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System on Monday, to open an 8-game home stand against the Hickory Crawdads. Kannapolis will send RHP Luis Martinez  (1-0, 1.80 ERA) to the mound against Hickory's LHP Sal Mendez  (4-3, 4.72 ERA) at 7:05 p.m. Monday's game is Belly Buster Monday where all tickets include all-you-can-eat at the concessions stand for only $16 (only $14 for kids 4-12).
