MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Here comes Toro! The Houston Astros have purchased the contract of Round Rock Express INF Abraham Toro amid a flurry of transactions on Thursday afternoon. Toro is seeking his major league debut in his first career promotion to The Show.
The Astros also recalled Express RHP Joe Biagini and designated E-Train RHP Brady Rodgers for assignment. Biagini pitched in just two games for Round Rock since being optioned to the club on August 14. The righty posted no record with a 27.00 ERA (5 ER/1.2 IP) in a pair of relief appearances. Rodgers opened the year with Round Rock, going a perfect 4-0 with a 3.83 ERA (21 ER/49.1 IP). He has been on the disabled list since July 4.
Toro joined the Express from the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks on August 1. In 16 games with the E-Train, the 22-year-old hit .424 (28-66) with nine doubles, a home run and 10 RBI. He tallied multiple hits in 10 of his 16 games with Round Rock, including a career-best 5-6 night on August 8 at El Paso. He blasted his first career Triple-A home run in last night's contest against Memphis.  
Toro appeared in 98 games with the Hooks before his promotion to the Express, hitting .306 (115-376) with 22 doubles, four triples, 16 home runs and a team-high 70 RBI. He earned Texas League Player of the Week honors in May before being named a Texas League Midseason All-Star.
He split the 2018 season between the Class A-Advanced Buies Creek Astros and Corpus Christi, combining to bat .247 (117-474) with 35 doubles, three triples, 16 home runs and 78 RBI. He earned a trip to the Carolina League All-Star Game during his time with Buies Creek. In 360 total games in the minor leagues, Toro is a career .273 hitter (364-1333) with 83 doubles, 12 triples, 48 homers and 210 RBI.
A native of Longueuil, Quebec, Canada, Toro was selected by Houston in the fifth round of the 2016 MLB Draft and is primed for his major league debut in just his fourth season within the Astros organization.
The Express close out their four-game series against the Memphis Redbirds (St. Louis Cardinals affiliate) on Thursday night. Round Rock LHP Ryan Hartman (6-5, 5.24) is scheduled to face Memphis RHP Chris Ellis (4-5, 7.21). First pitch at AutoZone Park in downtown Memphis is slated for 7:05 p.m.
