Soroka, James claim monthly honors

PEARL, MS --  The Atlanta Braves announced the minor league pitchers and players of the month for June. For the Double-A Mississippi club, RHP Mike Soroka  and outfielder Jared James  were selected for the monthly accolades.
 
Soroka, 19, posted a record of 3-1 with a 0.79 ERA in five starts during the month of June. The young righty was selected as a 2017 Southern League All-Star and was named to the 2017 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. The Braves No. 4 prospect, as ranked by Baseball America, is 9-4 with a 2.23 ERA in 15 starts on the season at Double-A Mississippi. Opponents are hitting .225 against him. The Canadian was selected by the Braves in the first round (28th overall) of the 2015 draft.
 
James, 23, hit .333 with five doubles, a triple and seven RBI during the month of June. He's hitting .256 with nine doubles, four triples, two home runs and 19 RBI in 71 games with the Double-A Braves this season. James split time between R-Danville and Low-A Rome last season, hitting .298 and .302 respectively between the two teams. The California native was selected by the Braves in the 34th round of the 2016 draft out of Long Beach State.
