FORT WORTH, TX- The Texas League began their annual awards season today when President Tim Purpura announced that Joey Curletta of the Arkansas Travelers has been selected as Player of the Year while Logan Allen of the San Antonio Missions has been selected as Pitcher of the Year. The two awards were voted on by coaches, staff and media of the Texas League.

Curletta, a sixth-round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2012 MLB Draft, had his best offensive season in his minor league career in 2018. He is leading the league in RBI (89) and base on balls (77) while he is second in home runs (23) and slugging percentage (.492). His 89 RBI are the most in a single season for a Traveler since Luis Jimenez in 2011 with 94 RBI and the first time a Traveler has led the league in RBI since Mike Napoli with 99 in 2005.
Allen, an eighth-round pick of the Boston Red Sox in the 2015 MLB Draft, has seen tremendous success in his first season at the Double-A level. In 20 appearances (19 starts), he went 10-6 with a 2.75 ERA in 121.0 innings. He was a part of the only no-hitter in the Texas League in 2018. Allen and Jason Jester combined for the no-hitter on May 31 against the Tulsa Drillers. This is the first time since 2007 that a Mission has won Pitcher of the Year. Allen was promoted to Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas on August 10th.
