Granville, WV-The time honored tradition of moonshining is set to come alive at Monongalia County Ballpark July 17th-19th this summer. The West Virginia Black Bears announced today that they will take the field, for those three days only, as the West Virginia Moonshiners.
Name changing for a game or series has become a way for teams to honor traditions and have fun with local flairs. This salute to the Moonshiners will be done through a uniform change, new merchandising items as well as displays throughout the ballpark.
The logo scheme will feature the method West Virginians traditionally used to produce the popular beverage as well as the methods they used to transport the moonshine throughout the mountainous regions. Hues of copper and black will be intertwined throughout the logo scheme. The copper signifies the color of the stills that were used during the production of moonshine. The black signifies the color of the cars that were used to transport the beverage during the prohibition era.
Replicas of the on-field apparel as well as alternative hats, apparel, and novelty items will be available for purchase for the first time in the Bears Den team store during the series. Merchandise will available through the online store at a later date.
"We are thrilled to bring to life the West Virginia Moonshiners at Monongalia County Ballpark. We cannot thank the New Era Company enough for the amount of time and effort they put into designing the new logo scheme. Great attention to detail has been put into every moment of this series and we look forward to debuting the new look to our fans on July 17th," said Matthew Drayer, West Virginia Black Bears General Manager.
Special ticket packs featuring all three games are now on sale for $30 per pack. Each pack will feature one reserved ticket to each night of the series. To purchase a pack visit http://bit.ly/WVMoonshiners .
