KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 3, 2017) - The Chicago White Sox have recalled right-handed pitcher Brad Goldberg prior to Saturday's game against Detroit, making him the 96th player to go from Kannapolis to the Major Leagues. Goldberg, who pitched for the Class A Kannapolis Intimidators in 2013, is 2-1 with a 1.99 ERA (5 ER/22.2 IP), four saves, and 22 strikeouts over 17 relief appearances with AAA Charlotte this season.
Goldberg, 27, joined the Intimidators shortly after being drafted by the White Sox in the 10th round of the June 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Ohio State. The former Buckeye went 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA (4 ER/25.1 IP) and 37 strikeouts over 12 relief appearances with Kannapolis before earning a late-season promotion to Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem. He spent 2014 and 2015 in Winston-Salem before reaching Triple-A ball for the first time in 2016. This spring, Goldberg pitched in two games with Israel in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
Three former Intimidators have reached the Major Leagues this season as Goldberg joins Jacob May and Adam Engel in reaching the game's top level this season. Of the 96 players that have gone from Kannapolis to the Major Leagues since the team's inception in 1995, Goldberg is the 72nd to do so since the Intimidators became a White Sox affiliate in 2001.
The Intimidators are home tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the Greensboro Grasshoppers as the team hosts Superhero Night with special character appearances and post-game fireworks presented by Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Associates. Tickets are available by calling (704) 932-3267 or by visiting IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
