Pulaski, Va - The Pulaski Yankees defeated the Bristol Pirates 10-2 on Monday night at Calfee Park and have won five games in a row. The five game winning streak is a new season high for consecutive wins and leaves the Yankees +3.5 games in first place in the Appalachian League East Division.
For the third time in the last four games, the Yankees were able to score a run in the first inning and take an early lead. A number that has not gone unnoticed by the Yankees staff, players and fans is that the team is now 13-0 when they score the first run of the ballgame.
A big third inning that saw the Yankees tack on another four runs allowed the Yankees to take control of the game. Chirinos led off the inning being hit by the pitcher and once again was able to advance a base on a pitch that got to the backstop.
Both Bristol and Pulaski scored a run in the fifth inning but the Yankees closed the door on the Pirates when they scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-1 lead. The Yankees will go for their first four-game sweep of the season as they conclude their seven-game home stand against Bristol tomorrow night with Racing Night at Calfee Park.
