Malik Collymore's single in the tenth inning tied the score and the winning run raced home all the way from first base on an ensuing error by center fielder Marty Costes as the Dayton Dragons walked off with a 6-5 win against the Quad Cities River Bandits Friday night. The game was played in front of 7,693 fans at Fifth Third Field.
The Dragons grabbed an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Jose Garcia opened the frame by working the count full against River Bandits starting pitcher and then drawing a walk. He raced all the way to third on a single to right by Andy Sugilio. Lorenzo Cedrola then lifted a fly ball to center field that was deep enough to score Garcia, who tagged from third.
The Dayton lead grew to 3-0 in the bottom of the second. Rosado hit Leandro Santana with a 3-2 pitch to open the frame.   Malik Collymore followed by looping a base hit into center field to put two men on base with no outs. An infield single from Raul Wallace loaded the bases and then a wild pitch allowed Santana to score from third and make it 2-0. Alejo Lopez followed with a sacrifice fly to center with Collymore tagging and crossing the plate for a three-run lead.

The River Bandits clawed back within striking distance in the top of the sixth. Marty Costes led off the frame with his first professional home run, a line drive that cleared the left field wall and closed the gap to 3-1. After a pitching change, Michael Papierski doubled down the third base line to get into scoring position. Two batters later, Scott Schreiber also ripped a double down the left field line to score Papierski and pull within 3-2.
Dayton extended the lead back to two in the seventh inning. Lopez and Garcia began the frame with singles. With two outs, Jeter Downs grounded a base hit into left field to score a run and rebuild the advantage to 4-2.
The Bandits got even at four runs apiece in the top of the eighth thanks to a long ball. Costes reached base on a single through the right side to open the frame. Colton Shaver followed by driving a two-run home run over the wall in the left center gap to knot the game. It was Shaver's ninth home run of the campaign.
The game was still tied after nine innings of play so the game moved to the tenth. Papierski started the inning at second base and promptly scored on a leadoff single from Chandler Taylor into right field. The Bandits loaded the bases with one out, but could not tack on any more.
In the bottom of the frame with Lorenzo Cedrola at second base, Downs lined a single into right to put runners on the corners. After Santana popped out, Malik Collymore lined a base hit into center field that scored Cedrola and tied the game. Costes charged the ball from center and it slipped under his glove and deeper into the outfield grass for an error that allowed the winning run to score from first base.
The River Bandits fell to 3-4 in extra-inning contests. They outhit Dayton 14-12. Jonathan Lacroix led all hitters with three, while Costes, Taylor and Schreiber added two hits each.
Rosado tossed the first 2.0 innings and allowed three runs on three hits. Humberto Castellanos followed with 3.0 scoreless innings during which he struck out three and allowed a pair of hits. Luis Garcia surrendered one run on five hits in 2.0 innings, walking a pair and striking out three. Willy Collado suffered the loss by allowing just two unearned runs in the final 2.1 innings.
The River Bandits (11-10, 51-40) will open a new set against the Bowling Green Hot Rods (15-7, 61-30) on Saturday night at Bowling Green Ballpark with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch. RHP Leovanny Rodriguez (4-1, 3.23) will start for the River Bandits against Hot Rods RHP Tobias Myers (9-4, 4.18).
