The pitching staff of the Quad Cities River Bandits was dominant once again as the Bandits earned their second straight shutout win with a 3-0 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Monday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Bandits have tossed 21.0 consecutive scoreless innings over the last three games.
Quad Cities broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning. Cedar Rapids starting pitcher Edwar Colina had recorded seven strikeouts and allowed just one hit through 5.0 innings. With two outs in the sixth, Cesar Salazar blasted his first career home run to right field to put the Bandits in front 1-0.
The score was still 1-0 entering the ninth inning when the River Bandits picked up some valuable insurance. Salazar opened the frame with a base hit and then moved to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Marty Costes drove him in with an RBI single up the middle to double the lead to 2-0. The next batter, Jonathan Lacroix ripped a triple off the glove of right fielder Trevor Larnach to increase the advantage to 3-0.

Chad Donato was fantastic over 7.0 scoreless innings of work. The right-hander limited the Kernels to just two hits and struck out three to pick up his third win of the season. Tanner Duncan earned the save by tossing 2.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The River Bandits (28-22, 68-52) and Kernels (31-19, 63-56) close out their season-series at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP Bryan Abreu (3-0, 0.44) will be on the mound for Quad Cities against Cedar Rapids LHP Tyler Watson (4-5, 4.66).
