Duke Deals, Quakes Beat Storm

April 26, 2013

Rancho Cucamonga, CA -Right-hander Duke von Schamann was stellar in his 7 2/3 innings on the mound Friday night, striking out seven and allowing just one earned run as the Quakes beat the Storm, 4-1, at LoanMart Field to end a four-game skid.

Von Schamann (2-1) earned his second victory of the season and did so in fine fashion, holding the Storm to three hits while walking a pair. Lake Elsinore came into Friday's game on a roll offensively, batting .275 as a team, good for third-best in the California League.

Left fielder Scott Schebler, right fielder Jonathan Garcia and catcher Chris O'Brien each went 2-for-4 with an RBI as the Quakes tallied 11 hits on the night.

After being retired via strikeout in the first inning, the Quakes' bats woke up in the second to the tune of four hits and three runs off Lake Elsinore starter Brandon Alger. O'Koyea Dickson singled to lead off the second frame and with two outs, the Quakes started moving guys around the bases.

Schebler roped an opposite-field double to the left field wall to cash in Dickson and came home himself on an O'Brien single that led to a Lake Elsinore throwing error. O'Brien would score one batter later after another Lake Elsinore fielding error, putting the Quakes ahead 3-0. O'Brien later added an insurance run in the eighth with an RBI double down the right field line.

Schebler cranked his California League-best fifth triple of the season in the fourth inning.

Garcia joined the Quakes' hit parade with a majestic solo shot in the fifth inning. Garcia's homer, his third of the season, extended the Quakes' lead to 4-0.

Alger (0-4) was chased after five innings, in which he allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits.

Michael Thomas gave up just one hit in 1 1/3 innings of relief, notching his seventh save of the season, keeping him atop the category in the California League.

The win ended the Quakes' four-game losing streak and brings their home record to 8-4 this season. The Quakes will look to continue the home hot streak on Saturday night in the second game of a three-game set with the Storm. They will do so with Dodgers star shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who is scheduled to be in the lineup.

Right-hander Gustavo Gomez (1-1, 7.11 ERA) will get the call for Rancho, while Colin Rea (0-1, 5.68 ERA) takes the mound for Lake Elsinore. Join us at LoanMart Field on Saturday night for Fireworks Night and Rally Towel Giveaway, all presented by Safeco Insurance.
