Late Rally Leads Quakes to Sixth Straight

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Despite five errors, Rancho Cucamonga used a five-run seventh inning to take down High Desert 10-7 on Tuesday night. With the win, the Quakes moved to 11-1 in the Second Half and tied a season-high with six victories in a row.

Rancho Cucamonga (11-1, 43-39) trailed for much of Tuesday night's contest, but rallied in the bottom of the seventh to turn a three-run deficit to a two-run lead. Chris Jacobs' RBI groundout made it a two-run game. Three batters later, the bases were loaded for Steven Proscia with two outs. Against former teammate Andrew Kittredge (3-1, 5.40), Proscia hit a bases-clearing double to left-center field that put the Quakes on top 8-7. Proscia came in to score on Jeremy Rathjen's RBI double and the Quakes finished the frame up 9-7.

Things got strange in the eighth inning. Andrew Kittredge struck out five Quakes, with two reaching base on wild pitches and Rancho scored an insurance run as a result. Aaron Miller struck out swinging with two outs, but the ball got away from catcher Tyler Marlette and James Baldwin scored to give the Quakes a 10-7 lead

Mavericks' pitcher Andrew Kittredge accomplished the feat exactly three years after Mark Montgomery did it for the Charleston RiverDogs of the South Atlantic League. Rancho had actually struck out five times in an inning before. Mike Schultz struck out five Quakes in an inning for Lancaster on July 15, 2004, but Rancho won that game as well by a 19-4 score.

The Quakes won despite a season-high five errors in the game. The Quakes made three errors that led to a pair of unearned runs for the Mavericks in the top of the seventh inning, but their rally in the bottom half negated the defensive miscues.

Rob Garvey finished the game a home run shy of the cycle for the Quakes, and he scored three of Rancho's runs. With the three-run double, Steven Proscia has 15 RBIs in his last 11 games. Yasmanys Fernandez (1-0, 4.15) picked up the win in relief, and Rob Rogers recorded a four-out save to finish the game off.

The Quakes go for a seventh win in a row Wednesday night in the second game of this series. Tom Windle (7-4, 3.89) looks to continue an excellent Second Half against righty Lars Huijer (0-0, --) for the Mavericks. First pitch is at 7:05 pm and the game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports AM 1350 starting with the LoanMart Pregame Report at 6:50 pm. 

The series continues on Wednesday, with a Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark. Bring your dog to the game for just $3, with all proceeds going to the Rancho Cucamonga Animal Shelter. The series concludes with our biggest night of the year. On July 3, fans will be treated to a patriotic Fireworks Spectacular after the game thanks to Cagle's Appliance Center.
