Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Quakes battled in extra innings within the walls of LoanMart Field for the first time all season, surrendering a run in the tenth and falling to Lake Elsinore 8-7.
Brandon Montgomery's two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth tied the game at seven and sent Rancho to extras for just the fourth time all season.
Ryan Moseley (3-3) worked the tenth and began the frame with Ruddy Giron situated on second base. Chris Baker delivered with an RBI-single on the first at bat of the inning to put the Storm up 8-7.
Dauris Valdez came on in the Rancho tenth, striking out Cody Thomas and getting Jeren Kendall to line into a game-ending double play.
Dodgers LHP Julio Urías stepped back the mound in Rancho Wednesday night in his second major league rehab appearance. Jared Walker provided an early run with a solo home run in the first, his 13th home run of the season.
Urias had his scheduled outing cut short due to pitch count, surrendering a two-run home run to Jorge Oña in the second and departing after 1.1 innings. Urias struck out two and did not factor into the decision.
Cody Thomas tied the game with a solo home run in the third before Lake Elsinore went on to score three unearned runs in the fourth against Wills Montgomerie.
Trailing 6-2 in the fifth, Omar Estevez doubled home a pair and scored on a wild pitch to pull back within a run at 6-5. Nate Easley homered in the sixth and the Quakes trailed 7-5 until Montgomery's big swing in the ninth.
Hansel Rodriguez (1-0) was tacked with a blown save after allowing the game-tying home run, but was later posited for the win by the offense.
The loss puts an end to seven straight wins at home and seven straight over Lake Elsinore. Thursday's rubber-match will feature RHP Isaac Anderson (7-6) on the mound for the Quakes opposite Lake Elsinore's Pedro Avila (7-7). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
