Rancho Cucamonga, CA - On Sunday afternoon at LoanMart Field, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (45-34, 4-7) let a seven-run lead slip away, falling by the final score of 13-9 to the Lancaster JetHawks (41-38, 7-4).
Lancaster's Todd Czinege had the shot to the heart of Rancho, capping off a nine-run top of the eighth with a go-ahead grand slam.
In that aforementioned nine-run top of the eighth, the JetHawks sent 13 men to the plate, while the Rancho defense made three-straight errors with two outs. Taylor Snyder had the other big blast of the frame, a three-run shot to left three batters into the inning.
Sven Schueller (2-3), who took the loss, began the top of the eighth, surrendering seven runs (three earned) and two walks in 0.2 innings. Max Gamboa allowed the salami to Czinege, shouldering the blown save.
Robert Tyler (1-0), with some right-guy-right-time luck, earned his first career Cal League victory, off the heels of a scoreless bottom of the seventh.
The Quakes' bats were not silent on Sunday, however, as they produced 13 hits, including three home runs from Devin Mann (17th), Marcus Chiu (9th) and Donovan Casey (13th). However, Rancho failed to score in their final five attempts of the contest.
With hopes of shaking off back-to-back tough losses, the Quakes send RHP Michael Grove (0-3) to the mound on Monday, as the Lake Elsinore Storm come to town with LHP Osvaldo Hernandez as their game-one starter. Monday evening's game is the first of three to finish off the seven-game, seven-day home stand.
Rancho is home until Wednesday, when they will cap the home stand with a firework spectacular on July 3rd, presented by Ontario International Airport. For all chances to get to tickets, visit rcquakes.com or by calling (909) 481-5000… Go Quakes!
