Rancho Cucamonga, CA - A sellout crowd, the third of its kind on the seven-game, seven-day home stand, saw the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes top the Lake Elsinore Storm on Wednesday night by a final score of 3-2.
Andre Jackson's second-consecutive solid start, just enough offense and strong work from the bullpen secured the second three-game sweep for the Quakes (48-34, 7-7) over the Storm (42-40) in 2019.
After falling behind 1-0 in the second inning, Deacon Liput (2nd) belted a two-run shot in the home half to put Rancho in the lead with one swing of the bat.
Devin Mann followed that up with an RBI single, his team-leading 56th RBI of the year, in the bottom of third to make it 3-1, Quakes.
Although a run touched home on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh to bring the Storm within a run at 3-2, Rancho pitching had the upper hand. Jackson (2-1), earning his second-straight victory, pitched a solid five innings of one-run baseball with seven punchouts.
The bullpen, consisting of Connor Strain, Brett de Geus and Darien Nunez, combined for four innings of work, allowing just the aforementioned single run. Nunez finished off the night with a 1-2-3 top of the ninth for his first save in a Rancho uniform.
The loss went to Luis Patiño (4-7), working just two short innings with two earned runs on the Liput homer.
Rancho kicks off a six-game road trip on Thursday with some Fourth of July baseball at San Manuel Stadium, as the Quakes and the Inland Empire 66ers square off for the first time in the second half. LHP Leo Crawford (2-3) takes the ball for the Boys in Blue, while RHP Kyle Bradish (3-4) gets the nod for the Sixers.
Following the six-day stretch away from home, Rancho Cucamonga returns to LoanMart on Wednesday, July 10th, hosting the San Jose Giants for a three-game set. Terra Vista Animal Hospital presents Bark in the Ballpark, as all four-legged friends are welcome to yard with the purchase $3 pet pass.
