B-Mets-Fisher Cats Suspended Tuesday

Plawecki pours, rain pours more
May 27, 2014

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets and New Hampshire Fisher Cats played into the bottom of the second inning before heavy rain suspended play on Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium. The B-Mets owned a 6-0 lead thanks to a five-RBI performance by Kevin Plawecki. The clubs will resume play on Wednesday at 5:35 PM. A seven-inning contest will follow the completion of the suspended nine-inning game.

The Binghamton bats wasted no time getting things started against New Hampshire starter Matt Boyd. Kyle Johnson led off the bottom of the first inning with a single. A couple of batters later, Matt Reynolds worked a one-out walk to put runners on first and second base. Plawecki then came to the plate and smacked a double to right field that scored both runs. Plawecki moved to third on an error by the second baseman Jon Berti. The catcher scored thanks to an RBI single by Cory Vaughn to put the B-Mets on top, 3-0.

The hot hitting continued in the second inning. Johnson and Reynolds each worked two-out walks. That brought Plawecki to the plate yet again and he hammered a pitch of the right-field wall to make it a 6-0 game. That brought Jayce Boyd to the plate under pouring rain. With a 3-2 count to Boyd, the game was suspended.

Matt Bowman started for Binghamton and gave up just one hit in two scoreless frames. He used only seven pitches and threw six strikes in a 1-2-3 second inning.

Ticketholders for Tuesday's suspended game may resume them for one of equal or lesser value for any future regular season game, excluding July 4.

The B-Mets (28-21) will send RHP Tyler Pill in the resumption of the suspended game. RHP Rainy Lara opposes RHP Casey Lawrence in the second game. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show, starting at 6:20 PM, can be heard on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and on the Binghamton Mets Baseball Network via the TuneIn App.

POST-GAME NOTES: Plawecki's five RBI are already the most by a B-Met in a game this season; he has 27 in the month of May…it is the first suspended game of the season for the B-Mets
