Bees Rally Falls Short

The Sugar Land Space Cowboys scored the last five runs of the game to defeat the Salt Lake Bees 9-5 in the first game of the series on Tuesday night. The Bees trailed 4-1 when they rallied to score four runs in the sixth to take a one run lead.

One out later, Jo Adell singled and stole second base. With two outs, the next four Salt Lake batters walked with Jordyn Adams and Preston Palmeiro picking up RBIs with bases loaded bases on balls to five the Bees a 5-4 lead. Sugar land would come back with three runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth for the win.

Jones, who played 74 games for Sugar Land last season, hit a pair of homers and drove in three runs to lead the Bees. Ryan Smith (1-2) took the loss, as he gave up the three runs in the seventh. Salt Lake starter Jake Kalish went five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Michael Stefanic walked in the sixth inning to extend his franchise record on-base streak to 49 games, but he went 0 for 3 to snap his 19 game hitting streak.
