PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 12, 2017) - For the second day in a row and third time in the last five games, the St. Lucie Mets lost 1-0. On Monday it was the opener of a series against the Jupiter Hammerheads at First Data Field.
 
The Hammerheads scored the game's lone run in the second inning. Dustin Geiger drew a leadoff walk from Mets starter Justin Dunn. Geiger advanced two bases on back-to-back grounders and scored on RBI single by Roy Morales.
 
The Mets offense only mustered two singles and four walks. Jupiter starter Jeff Brigham carried a no-hitter into the sixth but finally surrendered a base hit to Patrick Mazeika with two outs in the inning. Brigham retired the first 11 batters he faced and ended up pitching six innings to get the win.
 
Dunn pitched effectively over five innings, scattering four hits and three walks. He struck out three. Dunn has only given up two runs in his last 21 innings.
 
The Hammerheads used three relievers to pitch the final three innings. Felipe Gonzalez pitched around a leadoff walk in the seventh with three consecutive strikeouts.
 
Closer Tyler Kinley walked Mazeika to start the bottom of the ninth but induced a double play ball from Jhoan Urena and got Peter Alonso to ground out to end the game.
 
The Mets haven't scored a run in 19 straight innings. They have only scored one run in their last 34 innings.
 
The Mets (30-32) aim to get the offense going on Tuesday against the Hammerheads (29-34) when the teams meet for the second game of their series at First Data Field. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
