BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI - Tennessee was hot right from the start Friday night against the Shuckers, scoring six runs in the first three innings.
Jason Vosler got the scoring started in the first inning with a two-run home run that scored Daniel Spingola, who reached base earlier on a walk. Yasiel Balaguert was due up next and he followed in Vosler's path with a solo moonshot to left to stretch the lead to three. Andrew Ely would add another run with a single, and that would chase Biloxi's starter Luis Ortiz before the end of the first inning.
Duane Underwood Jr. received the start, allowing just one hit on a softly hit single into center by Jacob Nottingham in the sixth inning. Underwood would last seven innings, striking out six before turning the ball over to Preston Morrison.
Tennessee would get two more runs off a Charcer Burks solo homer to lead off the second inning, and the sixth run off a sacrifice fly by Andrew Ely in the third. That would be all the Smokies would need as Preston Morrison would finish with two scoreless innings to preserve the shutout and the win.
The Smokies are back in action tomorrow night against the Shuckers with Stephen Perakslis on the bump. Aaron Wilkerson is expected to take the mound for Biloxi with first pitch set for 7:35 p.m. ET.
