SEVIERVILLE, TN - The Smokies' offense struggled on Sunday evening for the second straight night to fall to the BayBears 6-0. The loss sets up a rubber match in tomorrow's series finale with Kyle Hendricks expected to take the mound for the Smokies in his second rehab start for the team.
Adbert Alzolay received the start for Tennessee coming off his Smokies debut in which he struck out 10 in five scoreless innings. For the second straight start Alzolay's offense put up zeroes behind him. This time he did not help his own cause, giving up three runs in five innings of work.
Grayson Long on the other side was stellar for the BayBears, going six innings of four-hit baseball while Conor Lillis-White finished the shutout with three scoreless innings of his own.
For the second straight night, the Smokies struggled with runners in scoring position going 0-6. They were 1-9 with runners in scoring position in Saturday night's game. Brad Markey was an out away from retiring the side in the eighth inning, but allowed a base hit followed by back to back homeruns to blow the game wide open.
The Smokies and Baybears are set to cap off a nine-game homestand on Monday night, with it being the rubber match of the five-game series. Kyle Hendricks is expected to head the hill for the Smokies, while Alex Klonowski will take the mound for Mobile. Tomorrow's game will be another Dollar Dog Night, presented by Toyota Knoxville with gates opening at 6:00 p.m. ET and first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.
