KEIZER, Ore. - The Spokane Indians picked the perfect time for their first five-game sweep of the season. A career-high 5 RBI night by Matt Whatley led the Indians to a 10-5 victory on Wednesday night in their series finale with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. The win puts Spokane alone atop the NWL North Division with just three games to play.

The Indians found themselves down 4-2 after the Volcanoes erupted for four runs in the second inning. However, it didn't take Spokane long to respond. In the next half inning, the Indians drove in five runs including a two-run home run by designated hitter Melvin Novoa. A 7-4 lead would prove to be more than enough, but Matt Whatley added three more runs for Spokane in the sixth innings. His three-run bomb was his fourth hit of the game, pushing his RBI total to a career-best of five.
Relief pitcher Josh Advocate picked up his first win of the season. Ismel Lopez, Alex Speas, Noah Bremer, and Alex Eubanks combined to shut out the Volcanoes over the final 5.1 innings of the game.
With a five-game sweep over the Volcanoes, the Indians have now won eight of their last 11 games. Tri-City lost to Hillsboro 2-0 on Wednesday, so Spokane now holds a one game lead in the NWL North Division.
The Spokane Indians return to Avista Stadium for the final three games of the regular season. The Indians are looking to lock up the Second Half North Division Title with the Everett AquaSox coming to town. Labor Day Weekend is a great time to come out to the ballpark to see Spokane's most important baseball games of the regular season and to take part in some of the best promotions of the year.
