Indians Show Fireworks in Win over Canadians

Spokane's offense blasts its way to a 10-3 victory
July 5, 2014

Spokane, WA - The fireworks started early for the Spokane Indians, as they had a triumphant return to Avista Stadium as they defeated the Canadians 10-3 in front of a sell-out crowd of 7,064 on 4th of July Fireworks Night presented by NAPA Auto Parts, KISS 98.1, 590 KQNT and The Inlander. The Indians (16-6) extend their lead in the North Division by three games over the Vancouver Canadians (13-9).

The Indians had five of the top ten league leaders in batting average entering tonight's game, a testament to the potency of the Spokane offense.

Indians' third baseman Jose Trevino had himself quite the evening as he hit a three-run blast in the bottom of the third to give Spokane a 3-1 lead. Trevino wasn't done though, as he crushed a solo shot for good measure in the sixth inning, driving in his fourth run of the game.

Richelson Pena earned the win, throwing 5.0 innings and giving up three earned runs on the night. He handed it over to the bullpen, which has been phenomenal all season. Jason Hoppe threw 3.0 scoreless innings, without surrendering a single hit or even a base runner, while striking out five batters. Johnny Fasola would come in to pitch the ninth inning and struck out the final batter of the game to secure an Indians' win.

The Spokane Indians will host the Vancouver Canadians tomorrow night at 6:30 PM at Avista Stadium for Game 2 of the short three-game series. It is Yoke's $1 Family Feast Night, presented by Yoke's Fresh Market KHQ, 92.9 ZZU and Spokane/CDA Living. All Cloverdale hot dogs, popcorn and Pepsi products are only $1 all night long!

You can listen to all Indians games on SportsRadio 1510 KGA with the Voice of the Indians, Mike Boyle. Tomorrow night's game will be broadcasted live on SWX, so if you aren't here at the stadium the next best thing is to cheer the Indians on from your living room!
