Indians Win Home Finale in Front of Sold Out Crowd

Victory pushes Spokane one game closer to playoff berth
August 30, 2013

SPOKANE, Wash. - For the final regular season home game of the 2013 season, the Spokane Indians - behind another dominant performance from Kelvin Vasquez - kept its playoff hopes alive in front of 6,840 fans by topping the Everett AquaSox 7-2 at Avista Stadium on Season Finale Fireworks Night presented by AAA, KREM 2-TV and 98.9 KKZX.

Vasquez tossed six innings and struck out eight AquaSox. His eight punch outs pushed his season total to 72, one behind the league lead. His ERA of 2.13 still leads all Northwest League pitchers.

The Indians got on the board first in the second inning as Jordan Akins grounded into a fielder's choice to score Joe Jackson for the second night in a row. One inning later, Jackson had a fielder's choice of his own to score Gabe Roa. Roa had three RBI on the night thanks to two sac flies and a squeeze bunt.

The Vancouver Canadians lost 5-3 to the Tri-City Dust Devils earlier in the day, allowing the Indians to move one game closer to a possible playoff berth. If Spokane makes the playoffs, they will host the Everett AquaSox on Tuesday, September 3rd for the opening game of a three-game playoff series.
