Spokane at Best Start in 103 Years with Win

Indians rake 15 hits in third-straight win over Hawks
June 24, 2014

Spokane, WA - Jose Trevino hit a three-run home run and every Indians player collected a base hit as Spokane (9-1) reached its best start in 103 years with a 12-6 win over the Boise Hawks (4-7) on Smokey Bear Night presented by Integra Telecom, Wildland Fire Agencies and Rock 94 1/2. The Spokane Indians went 13-1 in 1911.

Trevino took a fastball out to left field for his second home run in as many days. The dinger scored Eduard Pinto and Alberto Triunfel to give the Indians an 8-3 lead. Spokane would never trail again, thus giving starter Nick Gardewine his third win on the season. Gardewine allowed five runs on 10 hits.

Chris Dula, making his second appearance of the year, relieved Gardewine in the sixth inning. Dula, Austin Pettibone and Shane McCain finished off the Hawks, not allowing a single base runner in the final four frames. Pettibone made his season debut with two punch outs in two innings.

Luke Tendler lifted his batting average to .467 with two more base hits, and collected two RBis and two stolen bases. Pinto added in a base knock to grab his league-leading 12th RBI. Juremi Profar had two hits and three RBIs.

Spokane's hot start can be attributed to the team leading the Northwest League in batting average at .293; the Tri-City Dust Devils are second in the league with a .267 average. The Indians also lead the league in ERA with a mark of 2.48.

The Spokane Indians host the Boise Hawks tomorrow, Tuesday, June 24th for Sleep Country Foster Kids Night presented by Sleep Country USA, 95.3 KPND and Family Guide. Join us as we salute local Foster Kids. Fans at the game can enter to win a Spokane Indians 10-person Skybox to a future Indians game with a donation of clothes for local foster children. Stick around after the game and circle the bases courtesy of Supercuts!
