LAKELAND, Fla. (June 7, 2019) - Lakeland's Dylan Rosa hit a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the Flying Tigers to a 2-0 victory over the St. Lucie Mets on Friday at Joker Marchant Stadium.
Three Lakeland pitchers combined for the shutout. Starter Tarik Skubal blanked the Mets for six innings. He gave up just two singles, walked two batters and struck out eight.
In Skubal's previous two starts against the Mets this season he allowed 15 hits and 10 runs in just 4.2 innings.
Angel De Jesus tossed a scoreless seventh to get credit for the win.
Mark Ecker finished out the game by getting the final six outs for the save.
Mets starter Kyle Wilson was matching Skubal for most of the night and was one out away from pitching seven scoreless innings. However, Rosa took him deep with two outs in the home seventh. Rosa is batting .381 against the Mets this season.
New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo (neck) played in his second rehab game. He went 0 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout from the leadoff spot as the DH.
The Mets only mustered three total hits. Yoel Romero, who was brought over from extended spring training on Wednesday, went 2 for 3.
Blake Tiberi had the other hit. He went 1 for 2 with a single, a walk and a strikeout.
The Mets entered the game with the second fewest strikeouts in the Florida State League but fanned 12 times at the plate on Friday.
The Mets (30-30) and Flying Tigers (26-33) play the middle game of their series at Joker Marchant Stadium on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
