MEMPHIS, TN (July 5) - Paulo Orlando drove in two runs and scored twice, Zach Lovvorn tossed a strong game, and the Storm Chasers defeated Memphis 3-0 on Thursday night at AutoZone Park.
Orlando opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd, following a Ryan O'Hearn walk with a 2-run homer to left field. It was his 6th of the season, and it gave Omaha a 2-0 lead.
Lovvorn (W, 1-1) held that lead for 6 innings, keeping Memphis scoreless in his 2nd Triple-A start of the year. He allowed 4 hits, with 1 strikeout and 3 walks.
The Chasers added to their lead in the top of the 7th, as Paulo Orlando doubled, and Cam Gallagher singled him home to make it 3-0.
Jake Woodford (L, 0-2) worked 6.1 innings for Memphis; he was charged with 3 runs, 6 hits, and 1 walk. He struck out 1.
Josh Staumont tossed a scoreless 7th inning, then worked out of a bases-loaded jam to hold Memphis off the board in the bottom of the 8th.
After the 8th inning, a brief thunderstorm forced a 40-minute rain delay. After the resumption, Richard Lovelady (S, 3) pitched a scoreless 9th to earn the save and complete a combined shutout.
The Storm Chasers (40-45) will continue the series in Memphis tomorrow evening at 7:05. Omaha's starter is to be determined, while the Redbirds will send RHP Daniel Poncedeleon (7-3, 2.57) to the mound.
