Taylor's Five RBI Propel Tacoma to Victory

TACOMA, WA – The Tacoma Rainiers (11-4) took five-of-six games against the Reno Aces (6-8), winning the finale by a score of 13-7, Sunday at Cheney Stadium. For the second straight game, Tacoma got on the board in the first inning, this time on a two-run single from Samad Taylor.

TACOMA, WA – The Tacoma Rainiers (11-4) took five-of-six games against the Reno Aces (6-8), winning the finale by a score of 13-7, Sunday at Cheney Stadium.

For the second straight game, Tacoma got on the board in the first inning, this time on a two-run single from Samad Taylor. Their lead was cut in half in the second inning on a solo home run from Andres Chaparro.

It stayed 2-1 until the third, when Pavin Smith gave Reno their first lead of the game on a grand slam. They extended their lead to 6-2 on their third home run of the game in the fourth inning, a solo blast from Kolten Wong.

The Rainiers began to chip away at their deficit with an RBI single from Ryan Bliss and a two-run home run from Michael Chavis, making it 6-5 after five innings. They regained the lead in the sixth on an RBI triple from Bliss and a sacrifice fly from Taylor.

A bases loaded walk and another two-run single from Taylor made it 10-6 Rainiers. They added three more runs of insurance in the eighth on a home run from Leo Rivas to make it 13-6. Reno got a run in the ninth, but that is all they would score, as Tacoma won the finale by six.

POSTGAME NOTES:

  • Samad Taylor went 3-for-4 and tied a career high with five runs batted in hitting out of the three-hole. He has now driven in five three times in his career, most recently on June 21, 2022.
  • All nine starters got a hit for Tacoma today, as they combined for a season-high 16 total hits. Their 13 runs scored were also a season high, surpassing their previous mark of 11 set back on April 11.
