Sugar Land, TX (7/10/21) – The Tacoma Rainiers (29-25) scored in each of the first two frames on Saturday evening at Constellation Field, but the Sugar Land Skeeters (32-23), on the strength of a four-RBI night by their right fielder, rallied for a 6-3 victory.

A Cal Raleigh double and two walks loaded the bases for the Rainiers in the first inning, setting the table for Wyatt Mathisen’s RBI single to left. In the visiting second, Tacoma scored in its third consecutive inning dating to the ninth on Friday, when a Luis Liberato sac fly made it 2-0.

The Rainiers lead was erased in the third, on a Jake Meyers three-run home run; Meyers leads Sugar Land with 15 homers. Meyers made it 4-2 in the fifth with a sac fly of his own, before it was 5-2 Skeeters on a C.J. Hinojosa RBI double.

Soon-to-be Olympian Eric Filia drilled his second homer of the season in the sixth, an opposite field solo shot to the left field alley, trimming the Sugar Land lead to two. Filia will soon depart the Rainiers in preparation for the Olympic baseball tournament in Tokyo, scheduled to begin July 30.

Sugar Land right-hander J.P. France entered in relief in the fourth, but went five innings, allowing only three hits and a run on Filia’s homer, and struck out 10 with a lone walk.

Leading 6-3 in the ninth, the Skeeters dispatched Enoli Paredes, who worked around a pair of two-out Tacoma hits to save it with no further drama.

The Rainiers will return to action with a 2:05 p.m. PT doubleheader on Sunday in Sugar Land (two seven-inning games).
