Lane Adams Named SL Player of the Week

Outfielder led league with .500 average; Drives in 12, Steals 7 Bases
August 29, 2016

SEVIERVILLE - The Southern League announced Monday that Tennessee Smokies OF Lane Adams has been named the circuit's Player of the Week for the time period between August 22-28. This is the fourth weekly honor for a Tennessee player this season. OF Bijan Rademacher received the Player of the Week honors for the time period between April 7-17, while IF Chesny Young and RHP Paul Blackburn were named Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the time span of April 18-24.

In seven games this week, Adams led all Southern League players with an other-worldly .500 batting average (14-28) adding a .548 on-base percentage and a .750 slugging percentage. During the week, the 26-year-old was also tied for the league-lead in stolen bases (7), while ranking second in the circuit in extra-base hits (5), RBI (12) and OPS (1.298) and third in doubles (4).

Adams enters tonight on a season-best 11-game hitting streak that started on August 18 vs. Jacksonville. In those contests, the outfielder is batting a stellar .429 (18-42) with seven runs scored, five doubles, two home runs, 16 RBI and seven stolen bases.

Since making his Smokies debut on August 4 at Birmingham, the Red Oak, Okla. native is hitting .325 (27-83) with 12 runs scored, six doubles, three homers, 19 RBI and nine steals in 22 games. Adams was signed by the Chicago Cubs as a minor league free agent on August 3 after being released by the New York Yankees on July 28.

The Smokies continue their final homestand of the season against the Birmingham Barons, the Double-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, tonight. RHP Tyler Skulina (4-11, 5.62 ERA) is slated to toe the rubber for the Smokies, while RHP Spencer Adams (1-5, 4.71 ERA) is projected to get the ball for Birmingham. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.

Fans will have a chance to save some cash on Monday with the final McGhee Tyson Airport Dollar Monday of the 2016 campaign. Fans can purchase hot dogs, popcorn and small Pepsi products for as cheap as $1. After the final out, children in attendance will have the opportunity to run the bases courtesy of Shoney's.

Tickets for the final three games of the 2016 regular season are still available and can be purchased online at smokiesbaseball.com, or by calling the Smokies Ticket Office at 865-286-2300.
