Fort Wayne Falters on Road Again

TinCaps Lose to Hot Rods, 12-6, in Bowling Green
April 23, 2013

Bowling Green, KY -- The TinCaps lost to the Hot Rods 12-6 on Tuesday afternoon, falling for the seventh time in their last seven games away from Parkview Field. Bowling Green scored at least one run in each of the eight innings it came to bat.

After the Hot Rods jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the TinCaps responded with two in the second to take a 2-1 lead. Dane Phillips and Gabriel Quintana started the frame with singles and scored on a Luis Tejada groundout and Brian Adams single, respectively.

The Fort Wayne (9-8) lead didn't last long, however. Bowling Green (14-4) tied the contest in the bottom of the second, went ahead 3-2 in the third, and began to pull away with a three-run fourth to go up 6-2.

TinCaps starter Erik Cabrera (0-2) lasted three-and-one-third innings. The right-hander gave up six runs -- all earned -- on seven hits, three walks, and two batters hit by pitches.

Offensively, Fort Wayne faired fine, as it collected 11 hits, including seven against starter Jeff Ames (2-0), who went five innings to earn the win. That hit total was only one less than Bowling Green's 12. But the TinCaps went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

Left fielder Jeremy Baltz, who went 2-for-4, was the lone Fort Wayne player to produce multiple RBI. Baltz belted a two-run home run -- his team-leading fourth of the season -- in the eighth inning. Phillips, Adams, and Stephen Carmon also had two-hit games for the TinCaps.

In a balanced attack, no Hot Rods player drove in more than two runs. Second baseman Thomas Coyle reached base four times and scored four times, as he went 1-for-2 with a home run in the second inning and walked three times.

Fort Wayne and Bowling Green round out their three-game set in Kentucky on Thursday night at 8:05 p.m. (EST). Righty Walker Weickel (0-0, 3.52) will pitch for the TinCaps against Hot Rods lefty Blake Snell (1-1, 2.92). The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com
