TinCaps Win, Move Within Two of Playoff Spot

Franmil Reyes Hits Walk-off Sac Fly
August 18, 2014

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Franmil Reyes hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning to score Trea Turner and lift the TinCaps to a 3-2 win over the Great Lakes Loons Monday night at Parkview Field in the opener of a three-game series. The victory moves Fort Wayne within two games of Dayton for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Division.

Reyes was batting with no outs and the bases loaded against Jacob Rhame, who inherited the situation from Victor Araujo (5-2). The 19-year-old from the Dominican Republic hit an 0-1 pitch to medium-left field that plated Turner. He had started the inning with a hard-hit single to third base. Ronnie Richardson followed with a single of his own. Fernando Perez was then intentionally walked by Araujo to load the bases.

Fort Wayne (25-31, 55-70) is now 8-6 in extra-inning games, including 4-1 against Great Lakes (26-30, 60-66).

Nick Mutz (2-5) earned the win with a perfect top of the 10th. He came on after the Loons tied the game, 2-2, with a run in the ninth against Ryan Butler. Josmar Cordero hit a sac fly to bring in Alex Santana.

Prior to that, Great Lakes' only run came on a solo home run from its cleanup batter Joey Curletta. That was the lone hit allowed by Jimmi Brasoban over five innings. With the one exception, the 20-year-old right-hander kept his sinker low as he struck out four batters.

The TinCaps built a 2-0 lead in the third against Luis De Paula. Josh VanMeter drove in the game's first run with a fielder's choice groundout. Fernando Perez added a run-scoring single for his 80th RBI.

Following the sterling performance from Brasoban, Jason Jester tossed two scoreless innings and Eric Yardley -- on his birthday -- pitched a perfect eighth.

Fort Wayne hosts Great Lakes again Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Cody Hebner is tabbed to take the ball for the TinCaps against Jose De Leon. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com, and the TuneIn Radio app. XFINITY subscribers in Indiana can watch the game on Channel 81.
