Tissenbaum, TinCaps Take Rubber Game from Loons

Seventh Inning Single Leads to 6-5 Win
July 8, 2013

Fort Wayne, IN - Maxx Tissenbaum's two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning led the TinCaps to a 6-5 comeback win over the Great Lakes Loons Monday night at Parkview Field. Fort Wayne overcame a three-run deficit to win for the third time in four games and clinch both a series victory and a winning homestand. The TinCaps now have 19 come-from-behind wins this season.

Fort Wayne (6-12, 49-38) fell behind, 2-0, in the top of the first. One day after the TinCaps' Diego Goris hit an apparent first-inning three-run home run off the 400 Club in center field that was ruled only a single, Loons shortstop Corey Seager nearly hit a three-run homer off the 400 Club that also resulted in a single. However, unlike Goris' hit with two runners on that scored no one, Seager drove home two runs. The TinCaps tied the game, 2-2, with one run in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Goris and another in the fourth driven in on a double by Brian Adams.

Great Lakes (13-6, 40-49) jumped back in front, 5-2, with a three-run fifth. Colin Rea walked home a run with the bases loaded and allowed a two-run single off the bat of Aaron Miller. Fort Wayne got two runs back in the ensuing half inning, as Luis Tejada provided a single to score Goris and Luis Domoromo hit a sacrifice fly.

Tissenbaum's heroics were made possible by 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief from Trevor Gott and two scoreless innings from Chris Nunn (7-0). Meanwhile, Great Lakes reliever Scott Griggs (2-6) entered to pitch the seventh and began by surrendering a single to Domoromo. After Griggs struck out Tyler Stubblefield and Corey Adamson, Brian Adams struck out, too, but advanced to first on a wild pitch. With new life for the TinCaps, Mallex Smith walked to load the bases. Owen Jones came in to replace Griggs, only to allow Tissenbaum's game-winning hit.

The TinCaps have Tuesday off before beginning a six-game road trip Wednesday at the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Fort Wayne's Zach Eflin is scheduled to start against Wisconsin's Preston Gainey. The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
