A returning Northwest League All-Star highlights the initial 2019 roster for the Tri-City Dust Devils. Left-handed pitcher Dan Dallas, one of five Dust Devils selected to the 2018 Northwest League-Pioneer League All-Star Game, is one of 11 players set to rejoin the Dust Devils this summer. The initial roster includes 26 total players, with an even breakdown of 13 pitchers and 13 position players.
Other notable returners include Omar Cruz. The 20-year-old southpaw from Mexico went 1-0 with a 2.01 ERA in six appearances with the Dust Devils in 2018. He had 29 strikeouts and allowed just 16 hits in 22.1 innings with the team last season.
Outfielder Tre Carter, who has played in 135 career games with Tri-City, is also back with the team in 2019. Carter led the team in games played in both 2017 and 2018.
Newcomers to the Northwest League include right-handed pitcher Ignacio Feliz and infielder Jordy Barley. Feliz was acquired by the San Diego Padres over the offseason as part of the trade that sent former Dust Devils pitcher Walker Lockett to the Cleveland Indians. Barley, an athletic 20-year-old shortstop, will look to follow in the footsteps of successful former Dust Devils middle infielders such as Fernando Tatis Jr., Luis Urías and Owen MIller.
Mike McCoy is back as the team's manager for the second straight season. He is joined once again by hitting coach Pat O'Sullivan and fielding coach Oscar Salazar. Former Major League pitcher Leo Rosales is set to begin his first year as the team's pitching coach.
The Dust Devils are expected to receive additional players in the coming weeks from the 2019 MLB Draft, which took place June 3-5.
