EVERETT – For the second straight night the Tri-City Dust Devils (4-1) grabbed an early lead at Everett Memorial Stadium, but the Everett AquaSox (2-3) had answers both at the plate and on the mound in a 4-2 win over Tri-City Wednesday night.
3B Jake Munroe continued his hot start in the 1st inning by scalding a grounder past the third base bag and down the left field line for an RBI double, scoring SS Capri Ortiz after he had singled and swiped second for his Northwest League-leading sixth stolen base. Everett tied the game in bottom of the 1st, but Dust Devils LF Jorge Ruiz showed off some power an inning later by homering to right to give the visitors a 2-1 lead in the 2nd.
Starter Nate Snead (0-1) struck out four in his professional debut, going four innings and giving up three runs on six hits. The Angels’ third round 2025 draft pick threw two scoreless innings to close out his start, leaving with his team down a run at 3-2.
A night after Tri-City put up 16 runs in the first four innings and 17 on the night, however, the AquaSox bullpen put a stop to any thoughts of a rally. Righty reliever Chase Centala (1-0) and three fellow hurlers held the Dust Devils off the scoreboard for the final 7.1 innings, including retiring the last 14 batters they saw.
Capri Ortiz (2-4, SB, R) and Jake Munroe (2-4, 2B, RBI) had multi-hit games for Tri-City, and CF Anthony Scull added an infield single. On the mound, Dust Devils lefty Lucas Knowles gave up a run but struck out five in two innings of relief. Kyle Roche and Benny Thompson followed with scoreless frames.
