Southpaw Jose Salvador gave the Tri-City Dust Devils (12-24 2H, 41-58) another solid start, leaving the game with the lead, but the Vancouver Canadians (23-12 2H, 53-45) came back to take a 6-3 win Sunday afternoon at Nat Bailey Stadium.

The loss for the Dust Devils was their fifth straight to the Canadians, all games in which Tri-City held a lead in the 6th inning or later.

Salvador went five innings, giving up only one hit: a solo home run by Vancouver’s Gabriel Martinez in the 5thinning. The lefty from Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic struck out four in his outing, walking two but in control outside of the home run.

Salvador left with a 2-1 lead via the Dust Devils getting two runs in the top of the 5th inning. Mike Wilson led off the inning with a shot over the right field fence for his third home run of 2022, giving Tri-City a 1-0 lead. The lead doubled when D’Shawn Knowles singled up the middle, scoring Christian Molfetta for a 2-0 lead.

The Dust Devils held the lead to the bottom of the 7th inning when Vancouver found another big hit late in the game, a P.K. Morris three-run home run to right off Zac Kristofak (1-3) to give the Canadians their first lead of the day at 4-2.

Tri-City answered with a run in the top of the 8th inning to get back within a run. Zach Neto led off the 8th with a triple high off the fence in center field, his first three-bagger as a pro. Neto then scored on a Joe Stewart infield single, the two newest Dust Devils combining to make it a 4-3 game.

The closeness ended up short-lived. Vancouver added two big insurance runs in the 8th inning on a two-run home run by Damiano Palmegiani, pushing the lead to the final 6-3 margin.

Reliever Justin Kelly (7-2) got the win for the Canadians, who took the season series 15-8. Connor Cooke got the final five outs for his second save.
