Ryan Ward Named Texas League Player of the Week

For the first time this season, a Tulsa Drillers player has been selected for a weekly award. Ryan Ward was today named the Texas League’s Player of the Week for his performance August 2-8 against Northwest Arkansas.

As he has been for much of the season, Ward was outstanding last week during the six games at Northwest Arkansas. He went 11-28 against the Naturals for a .393 batting average.

Ward, who leads all of Double A in home runs this year, hit three homers last week against the Naturals while totaling ten RBI. He also stole two bases and had a 1.219 OPS.

For the season, Ward has hit 27 home runs which ties him with Willie Calhoun for the ninth-most in Drillers franchise history. Tim Wheeler holds the franchise record for homers in a season with 33 in 2011.

Adrian Chaidez of Corpus Christi was named the Texas League’s Pitcher of the Week after allowing just three hits in nine combined innings in two appearances last week.
