Palka's 3 Hits Help Rawhide Past San Jose

May 18, 2015

VISALIA--Daniel Palka finished a homer shy of the cycle, Blayne Weller worked through 6 innings, and the Rawhide beat San Jose 7-3 on Monday afternoon to win 3 out of 4 in the series.

The 'Hide took the lead in the bottom of the 1st on a 2-out double by Palka, a wild pitch, and a passed ball.

The Giants came back with 3 in the top of the 2nd, on an RBI double by Jesus Galindo and a 2-run double by Ryan Lollis, as they went in front 3-1.

But they wouldn't score again, and the Rawhide immediately tied it in the 2nd; Breland Almadova doubled, Domingo Leyba walked, and they advanced to 2nd and 3rd on a wild pitch. Michael Perez knocked in Almadova with a sacrifice fly, and Kevin Medrano drove in the other with an infield single. It was 3-3.

The 'Hide went ahead for good in the bottom of the 3rd; after a single from Palka, Stewart Ijames crashed his 10th home run of the season over the wall in right, making it 5-3.

And they added 2 more in the 4th; Chuck Taylor doubled, Kevin Medrano singled him home, and Daniel Palka tripled to center to score Medrano, giving the 'Hide a 7-3 lead.

That would be all the scoring for the day; Palka had one chance at the cycle, but he popped out to the catcher in the 6th inning.

Blayne Weller gutted his way through 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and stranding 8 baserunners.

Rehabbing Major Leaguer David Hernandez worked a scoreless 7th inning with 2 strikeouts, Bud Jeter pitched a perfect 8th, and J.R. Bradley struck out the side in the 9th to close out another win.

The Rawhide are now 28-10, and will head to Lake Elsinore tomorrow to open a weeklong road trip. Catch all the play-by-play right here at RawhideBaseball.com; first pitch will be at 6:00 tomorrow!
