Power fall 7-1 as Glasnow sets strikeouts a new record

(Salisbury, MD- August 7, 2013)-  The West Virginia Power lost to the Delmarva Shorebirds 7-1 on Wednesday at Arthur W. Purdue Stadium. The Shorebirds scored four times in the first and added three runs of support late to saddle the Power with their second straight defeat.

West Virginia starter Tyler Glasnow allowed three of the first four batters to reach on singles in the first inning, including a run-scoring single by Creede Simpson to put Delmarva ahead 1-0. Wynston Sawyer followed with a three run home run on a 1-2 pitch from Glasnow for a 4-0 lead.

The Power starter strike out the side in the first with the hits and runs scattered between and added two strikeouts in the second and third innings. His seventh strikeout of the game, Sawyer looking in the third, was the 135th of his 2013 season, passing Will Inman's 134 in 2006 for a new West Virginia Power record.  

Chris Diaz drove in West Virginia's lone run on a fielder's choice in the fifth inning.

Delmarva added three runs against Cesar Lopez in the bottom of the eighth inning to close the scoring.

Glasnow (8-3) took the loss despite striking out 12 for the second time this season while Juan Guzman (6-3) garnered the win with seven innings of four hit, one run ball. Harry Marino entered the game in the eighth with a 4-1 lead and pitched the final two innings for his first save of the season.

West Virginia opens a four game series at Lakewood at 7:05 pm on Thursday. The Power start a seven game homestand on August 13 against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. For tickets or more information, call 304-344-2287.
