Three Sox top-30 prospects start season in Kannapolis
April 1, 2013

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (April 1, 2013) - The Kannapolis Intimidators 2013 Opening Day roster is set. The Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox will feature six selections from the June 2012 First-Year Draft, including four chosen in the first 10 rounds, on the team's 25-man roster. Three of Baseball America's Top 30 White Sox prospects will open the season in Kannapolis, including No. 23 Brandon Brennan, No. 25 Micah Johnson and No. 30 Jefferson Olacio.

Brennan, a right-handed pitcher selected in the fourth round from the University of Oregon, highlights the half-dozen 2012 draftees coming to Kannapolis, including fellow right-handed hurlers Zachary Isler (eighth round), Brandon Hardin (10th round) and Adam Lopez (21st round). Johnson, a ninth-round selection last summer, was rated by Baseball America as the fastest runner in the Sox draft class. Outfielder Kale Kiser (23rd round) led Advanced Rookie Bristol in six offensive categories last summer, including hits and home runs.

Infielder Patrick Palmeiro, the son of 20-year Major League veteran Rafael Palmeiro, enters his first year of full-season professional ball after appearing in 42 games with Advanced Rookie Great Falls in 2012. He joins fellow infielder Tyler Williams, the son of White Sox Executive Vice President Ken Williams, in coming from a strong baseball pedigree.

Eleven players who spent time with the Intimidators last season, including 2012 South Atlantic League All-Star third baseman Rangel Ravelo, will open the year with Kannapolis. Ravelo, along with infielder Michael Johnson, outfielder Adam Heisler and catcher Michael Marjama return along with seven pitchers who have toed the rubber for Kannapolis. Right-handed hurler Myles Jaye leads all returning arms with 79.0 innings of work in 17 games (17 starts) for the Intimidators in 2012. Olacio, a 6'7" left-hander who opened last season in Kannapolis as an 18 year old before moving to Bristol for the second half of the season, returns to the Sally League circuit with 37.0 innings of Class A experience in 15 games (five starts) under his belt.

The Intimidators open the 2013 season April 4 with a pair of road series at the Lakewood BlueClaws (Phillies) and Delmarva Shorebirds (Orioles) before returning home to CMC-NorthEast Stadium for the home opener on April 11 against the Hickory Crawdads (Rangers).

This year marks the 19th season of professional baseball in the community and 13th as an affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. CMC-NorthEast Stadium is located off I-85 at exit 63.
