Unbollweevible promotion July 13

Intimidators hosting "Salute to the Piedmont Boll Weevils"
June 24, 2013

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 24, 2013) - It's time to party like it's 1999, and for the Kannapolis Intimidators, that means giving fans an UNBOLLWEEVIBLE night as the team dons throwback uniforms and takes the field as the Piedmont Boll Weevils. On Saturday, July 13, the Intimidators are hosting Turn Back the Clock Night, taking fans back to 1999 with a Salute to the Piedmont Boll Weevils, the franchise's former moniker. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m.

The Intimidators Boll Weevils are rolling back concessions to 1999 prices, and fans that wear Boll Weevils gear to the ballpark can purchase reserved level tickets for the 1999 price of only $5. During the game, the team will also host a silent auction for fans to bid on the game-worn Boll Weevils throwback uniforms, which will be autographed by players following the game. Fans will also be able to purchase Boll Weevils shirts and hats inside the Intimidation Station Weevil Warehouse souvenir store. The game will also feature popular songs from 1999 played all night long.

"We're very proud of our team's history," said Intimidators General Manager Randy Long, who began working for the Piedmont Boll Weevils as a seasonal staffer in 1997. "We've already received an incredibly positive response from our fans regarding this promotion. Many of them remember seeing Jimmy Rollins, Ricky Williams and a host of other former greats play in Kannapolis as Boll Weevils, and we are excited to connect newer fans to our past."

Before the Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, began using the "Intimidators" moniker for the 2001 season, the team was known as the Piedmont Boll Weevils from 1996-2000 and served as the Philadelphia Phillies affiliate in the South Atlantic League. The team originally relocated from Spartanburg, S.C., to Kannapolis as the Piedmont Phillies for the 1995 season before adopting the Boll Weevils nickname in 1996.

The Intimidators continue the second half of the season by opening a three-game series against the Rome Braves (Atlanta Braves) today in Rome. The team returns home for a seven-game home stand beginning Thursday, June 27 against the Greenville Drive (Boston Red Sox). The Intimidators will host a pair of All-American Fireworks nights during the upcoming home stand to celebrate the Independence Holiday with both games start at 7:05 p.m. Fireworks on Saturday, June 29, are presented by the Cabarrus County EDC. Wednesday, July 3 features post-game fireworks presented by the City of Kannapolis.

The Kannapolis Intimidators are in their 19th season of professional baseball and 13th season as the Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. The team plays at CMC-NorthEast Stadium, located off I-85 at exit 63. For ticket and promotional information, please call the F&M Bank Box Office at (704) 932-3267 or visit IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
