Offensive outburst carries Greenville to win

GREENVILLE, S.C. (April 11, 2014) - The Kannapolis Intimidators fell behind in the middle innings and couldn't recover in a 13-2 loss to the Greenville Drive on Friday night at Fluor Field. Greenville scored four runs in the fourth inning, three in the fifth and three more in the sixth to break what was a 2-2 tie en route to their second win over the Intimidators in as many nights.

Greenville's Jimmy Rider broke the tie game with a bases-loaded single in the fourth for a 3-2 lead. Two batters later, Tzu-Wei Lin's two-out double cleared the bases and put the Drive ahead 6-2. Manuel Margot added a two-run home run (3) in the fifth, and Rider added another RBI-single as the lead grew to 9-2.

Carlos Asuaje piled on in the bottom of the sixth after an Intimidators error opened the door for his two-out, bases-clearing triple to put the Drive ahead, 12-2.

Kannapolis (4-5) starter Robinson Leyer (0-2) suffered his second loss to the Drive in two starts, allowing six runs on seven hits over 4.0 innings of work. He struck out two and walked three. Storm Throne tossed 2.0 relief innings, allowing six runs on five hits.

Drive starter Pat Light (2-0) spun 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five, to pick up the win. Joe Gunkel worked the final 3.0 innings for the Drive to record the save (2).

Carl Thomore put Kannapolis ahead, 1-0, with a run-scoring single in the second inning. After the Drive tied it up, Danny Hayes gave the Intimidators a lead, 2-1, with an RBI-single in the top of the third.

Greenville pounded out 16 hits on the night, the most allowed by the Intimidators this season.

The Intimidators and Drive play Game 3 of this 4-game series on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Fluor Field as Kannapolis starter LHP Sean Bierman (0-0, 675) makes his second start of the season against Greenville's RHP Teddy Stankiewicz (0-1, 11.25).
